This was the first Christmas we just spent with the four of us… it was, admittedly, kind of weird! Even more weird that it was 80-90 degrees during our trip and felt nothing like Christmas, despite all the Christmas music playing. But I have to be honest, just cause you are playing the song, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” in your store, doesn’t mean that it feels cold outside in reality!
For Christmas Eve we planned on ordering room service hot cocoa and opening the Christmas Eve presents… we didn’t get home in time for that. But the girls put out their itty-bitty new stockings and opened their new pjs. They also left cookies out for Santa and tried to go to sleep (which was hard, and we couldn’t wrap anything until they were out, the joy of the hotel room Christmas).
The next morning the girls woke up excited for Christmas… they were thrilled their stockings were filled and that Santa had visited. I had even found an app for my phone that allowed me to put Santa in the hotel room, so the girls saw my secret picture of Santa sneaking presents into the room. When we headed down to breakfast in the hotel the receptionist told us that Santa had left gifts at the desk for the girls too… so they got a big bag of treats each- they were thrilled!
Santa brough each of the girls their own Kindle Fires (and then was super relieved when they were the perfect plane present EVER!). They also got new Barbie dolls, mice dolls, cases for their Kindles and a few other little things. They had opened most of their presents before we left town, so Christmas was a little on the small side. But they had fun none the less.
We were meeting some friends for Christmas lunch, so we got all dressed up and headed to the Table Bay Hotel for lunch. Grace and Charlie were nice enough to have brought little gifts for the girls and it was nice to see friends for part of the day. When we walked in the ballroom for lunch Grace made the perfect comment, “It feels like a wedding.” A very festive holiday wedding, but a wedding! Big round tables with red and green linens. There were poppers and holly pieces decorating each place setting and a band playing! The buffet was good and we had a fun time. Afterwards we tried to get a group picture and some of the attempts were just laughable. The lady kept pointing the camera DOWN… and all we could do was laugh, we knew she wasn’t getting any sort of decent picture… I included some for example. In some we are just missing parts of our group- seriously?!?
All in all it was a good Christmas, but we are excited to be with family again next year!
