Cape Town Stadium and the Castle
We started our Saturday by trying to find a place to do our laundry (we only packed for a week…). We found a place called I {heart} Laundry. Turns out they aren’t a laundromat, but you drop off your clothes and they wash, dry and fold them. They were reasonably priced and using them freed up our day so that we didn’t have to entertain 2 girls in a laundromat for a couple hours. They did such a great job, and it was so easy, we are thinking of using them again before we move on to Johannesburg. They washed, dried and folded everything… and then wrapped it nicely in tissue so that it didn’t come unfolded until we arrived home and unwrapped them! Brilliant, and the guy was super nice and friendly- always a good sign for a small business and return customers.
Not having to worry about laundry meant that we could go take a tour of the Cape Town Stadium. The stadium was built for the World Cup in 2010. It was a really nice stadium- though soccer isn’t huge in Cape Town (rugby is the sport here) they have a team that occasionally plays there, and then they host concerts and other events. They had Linkin Park, Lady Gaga and a couple other people here in the last couple months. Bon Jovi will be here in May. We had a good time walking around seeing the VIP rooms, locker rooms and touching the grass. We also saw some horses outside and got to go into the little jail in the basement of the stadium.
The next stop that we took was the Castle. It was one of the first strongholds that the city had against invaders. We took a lot of pictures of cannons, mainly for Grandad, as he is very into cannons… but it was an interesting place to walk around. There was also a horse walking around for no apparent reason. Right as we were about to leave we saw them shoot a cannon- it was cool, loud and full of smoke and flame!
We had a great time- the girls loved taking pictures of cannons for Grandad and we couldn’t believe that half of our time in Cape Town was coming to a close!
